Taylor Newcomb Memorial Walk 2019

Taylor Ann Newcomb was and remains an incredible legacy of love and justice in action. Beloved by friends and community members near and far, she is sorely missed. One year following Taylor's death and the first Girl Trek hosted "Taylor Newcomb Memorial Walk", Girl Trek Sioux Falls, allies, and friends gathered once again. This time under an overcast sky at McKennan Park in Sioux Falls Sunday morning July 28th to share in some of the things most beloved by Taylor; community, music, words, and walking.

Attendees gathered under umbrellas near the park's amphitheater as June Alice introduced the event, and musical guest Arlinda Peacock played a song she wrote reminiscent of our friend and the strength and passion she so lived out.

Following opening words and musical performance, participants were invited to don clear plastic rain shawls and join in on a walk through the park, bright green signs marking the route for the group. Though the walk was cut short due to a sudden downpour of rain, participants were able to return to the amphitheater and a mostly clear sky shortly after.

At the front of the park three trees were recently planted from the funds raised at last year's memorial walk. The events at the park closed with a blue heart drawn amidst the three tress, where friends and family laid flowers and paid respects to Taylor's memory.
