Stop Criminalizing Trans Existence Protest
On February 1st the Sioux Falls community held a rally against the latest bills introduced during this legislative session. The legislation being protested includes HB 1057 which criminalizes gender affirming medical care to transgender youth, and HB 1215 which seeks to strip all protections and rights (including marriage) from LGBT people in the state. Many showed up in support with signs, LGBTQ+ pride flags, and proceeded to march from Nelson Park to Fawick Park.
Upon arrival, some shared stories about growing up as transgender or having a family member that identified as transgender. One thing that was noticeable was the crowd demographic consisting of people from all backgrounds coming together to make it known that transgender youth and adults should feel safe and welcome in this state. As well as to encourage community cooperation to ensure protections and equal access to rights for transgender and queer members of our community.
