#2018PoWR in Toronto
Religious, spiritual, and community activists & leaders gathered in Toronto, Ontario to celebrate, learn, and connect at the 7th Parliament of the World’s Religions.
The 2018 Parliament focused on themes of climate action, justice, Indigenous communities, and global community, and was titled: “The Promise of Inclusion, the Power of Love: Pursuing Global Understanding, Reconciliation, and Change”.
Utilizing art, theology, theory, and impact, presenters and attendees collectively navigated conversations seeking to define both why and how we can more intentionally engage in the world and experiences around us. In a time when climate change, oppression, and institutional injustices rampage, most impacting those who have done the least to cause it, Parliament leaders & attendees ask what responsibility it is we have as partakers of the earthy experience to care for and protect the human, animal, and plant life all around us.
“We humans do live by many different stories, and those stories have huge implications in terms of how societies organize.”
— David Korten
“We can’t look at reconciliation as the final product, we must look at it as a first step. We must reconcile with our planet and with each other so we can take steps towards healing and building a balanced future for everyone”
— Eriel Tchekwie Deranger
“Justice is not something to be solved in the future, but today. Justice without action is just a word. Peace without reconciliation is hypocrisy. Love without empathy and understanding is violence.”
— Ven. Pomnyun Sunim
